This exclusive city hotel is located on a raised bank, offering beautiful views out over the sea. Surrounded by tropical gardens, it is only a few minutes walk from the old town and the centre of the Islands capital, Funchal. The turquoise-blue sea and inviting beach are just 50 m away and public transport links are accessible within just a few paces of the hotel. The near vicinity offers an array of shopping facilities as well as numerous restaurants. Diverse bars/ pubs, cafés, a nightclub as well as various other entertainment venues can also be found here.
Built in 1912, this hotel comprises a total of 337 rooms spread over 9 floors. This includes 12 suites and 325 double rooms. A lobby area with 24-hour reception welcomes guests into the hotel and provides a currency exchange counter, a hotel safe, 6 panoramic lifts leading to the garden, a tea parlour and a café. The hotel offers its guests a kiosk, a souvenir shop, a hairdressing salon as well as various bars (including 1 cocktail bar). Additionally a games room, a library, a TV room and 3 restaurants (of which one is an air conditioned à la carte restaurant with non smoking area) are also to be found here. Business guests may find the various conference rooms (capacity up to 800) and public Internet terminal (WLAN) of particular interest. The comfortable rooms come with an en suite bathroom with hairdryer and bathing robes, a direct dial telephone, satellite/cable TV, a radio, a minibar/fridge, air conditioning, carpeting, a king-size bed, a seating area and central heating as well as a hire safe. Each of these exclusively furnished rooms also comes with a balcony or a terrace (some with partial or full ocean views).
